IATEFL English Competition 2025

Through this school year, students from Gimnazija Vič worked through the different levels of the national competition for the English language, organised by IATEFL Slovenia.

This competition has only been open to third-year students but in 2025, for the first time, students from fourth-year classes could take part as well.

The competition begins at a school level before moving on to cover the different regions of Slovenia before culminating with the national-level competition.

Through the different stages, students must show their expertise in different aspects of the English language. This includes grammar rules, knowledge of literature, use of idioms and expressions, and much more besides.

We are delighted to say that one student (Katarina Adam) ended up being awarded a gold level prize, one (Klemen Javoršek) received a silver award, and two (Miha Bregar and Jona Šturm) got bronze awards.

Congratulations to all these students and many thanks to their mentors from our school’s English department who worked hard with them through the year to make sure they were ready to live up to their potential in showing their knowledge of the language.
