Language Week 2023
Between 25th and 29th September 2023, the students and teachers of Gimnazija Vič organised and took part in a number of different projects and activities to mark our traditional celebration of Language Week.
Using the theme of “Prohibited in Language”, we were able to look at the power of language and the threats to freedom of speech around the world.
Some of the activities included putting together a display of banned books in our school library, preparing a selection of quotes from those books, and looking at the reasons for the bans.
We were delighted to welcome some guest speakers during this week as well. With enthusiastic lecturers from the University of Ljubljana’s Department of English and Faculty of Arts, students were able to learn more about the impact of language structures and translation issues when it comes to dealing with issues of inclusivity and tolerance.
