Erasmus+ school visit: Croatia 2026
On Tuesday, May 19th, students and teachers from the V. Gymnasium in Zagreb, with whom we are collaborating in the Food for the Future Erasmus+ project, visited us for a one-day trip.
While some of our group went to meet the guests at the train station, others prepared the dough for Bela Kranjska pogača. When they arrived at our school, the English language promotions group, led by mentors Blanka Klobučar and Tim Gallagher, prepared an interactive presentation of our city and school.
After that, Kara and Laura, from our student group, presented Bela Kranjska pogača, a type of bread that is one of the traditional Slovenian dishes. With the group, we formed ten loaves from the rising dough and handed them over to our chefs to bake.
Then we took our Zagreb friends to see the exhibition “Food is not Waste”, the work of the project group of the Faculty of Biotechnology. Zala and Neža, two of our students, presented the work of the students of the Food for the Future Erasmus+ group. They talked about food waste in households and their research into the effects of using a student refrigerator as a responsible way of handling food surpluses. In the physics workshop, we visited the Erasmus+ group that is dealing with issues linked to plastics, where mentor Denis Pavlin presented the activities of the group, which explores the possibilities of processing and reusing plastic.
The Croatian guests were particularly interested in the presentations of the Erasmus+ EkoKreativec - Zeleni uTRIP project group in the school garden, led by Ksenija Švigelj Mastikosa, as they connected food and the school environment with the study of medicinal plants and spices during the school year.
After a walk in the school garden, we enjoyed our freshly baked bread and had a pleasant conversation. This was followed by a short tour of Ljubljana and then, in the late afternoon, we said goodbye to our guests who left with great impressions of their time with us.
